YORK Men’s Shed is a well-deserved recipient of a cash award from the Asda Foundation. The community organisation was set up to help men facing loneliness, illness, unemployment or bereavement find new hobbies, friends and to feel part of the community.

Members work on a range of DIY projects for themselves, or for others. Much of the equipment and tools they use have been donated.

The scheme is a novel way for men to meet socially and learn and share practical skills that are at risk of dying out.
